Some of the main differences between HTML5 and HTML4 is that there are new elements eg. <section> <header> <footer> <article>. Each of these elements are designed to contain certain parts of the web document to allow for easier accessibility – and no doubt the big search engines are already working out how best to read HTML5 sites and use the data to optimize their results.

What is HTML 5?
HTML5 is currently under development as the next major revision of the HTML standard. Like its immediate predecessors, HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.1, HTML5 is a standard for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web. The new standard incorporates features like video playback and drag-and-drop that have been previously dependent on third-party browser plug-ins such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Google Gears.

What is HTML Video?
HTML5 video is an element introduced in the HTML5 draft specification for the purpose of playing videos or movies[1], partially replacing the object element.

As of May 2010[update], Adobe Flash Player was widely used to embed video on web sites such as YouTube, since the majority of web browsers had Adobe’s Flash Player installed (with controversial exceptions such as the browser on the Apple iPhone and iPad). HTML5 video is intended by its creators to become the new standard way to show video online, but has been hampered by lack of agreement as to which video formats should be supported in the video tag.

But the majority of popularity has fallen upon Facebook and secondly, Myspace.

These social networking sites have the advantage of early entry to the marketplace and have established themselves as the leaders in this group. Myspace is generally for a younger audience who enjoys music and videos more than updates on there friends.

Facebook has become the practical site where people are more interested in updates from their friends list. Also there is an endless supply of web applications that have made Facebook fun and useful.

But where is this social networking trend taking us? Well, with Facebook, you can have “Fan” or “Company” Pages to help promote your group/business. You can also set up groups where people can gather online to share and discuss certain topics.

But the one weakness that Facebook has is that it is too general. Meaning, it is an online meeting place with no certain genre or niche. So on Facebook, you can meet anyone of any type, shape, ethnicity, age, location, etc. There isn’t a focus or requirement to join this global community.

And this is where a small start-up social networking site can have an advantage. By creating a site that specializes in a certain genre (say for example, young people who are fans of baseball), you can create a specific community that like-minded people can join and meet other similar people. So how is this done you may ask?

Media One Pro has the skills to produce a social networking site in a short amount of time (1-4 weeks). We can design and develop your site with any specific niche in mind!

What are the costs you may now ask? Well, to hire a developer to create the code and build your site, you would be looking at an upwards of $20-30,000. This does not include monthly hosting costs or monthly maintenance.

So now is a social networking site out of your league? Not with us! For a limited time, we can take on new projects and create your social network for less than $1,000 to setup and only $150/month for hosting and maintenance!

Here’s what you get in details:
1) Domain Name Registration
2) 1 Template Creation
3) 1 Template Revision
4) Setup of Social Networking Application
5) 1 Content Management System installed and setup
6) 1 hour Social Media consultation (a $200 value!)
7) 1 month free hosting

After your initial setup fee ($1,000), you only pay $150/month. This includes hosting, support, and 1 article or 1 video optimization and submission.

You not only save yourself the $20-30,000 in developer costs, but you pay one flat monthly fee to maintain your own site (and dont’ forget, you can make this money back with simple ad placements, such as Google and Adbrite!).

So what are you waiting for? Contact us today for your FREE consultation and let’s get your business online with social media and ahead of the pack!

Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place. RSS feeds can be read using software called an “RSS reader”, “feed reader”, or “aggregator”, which can be web-based or desktop-based. A standardized XML file format allows the information to be published once and viewed by many different programs.

The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed’s URI (often referred to informally as a “URL”, although technically, those two terms are not exactly synonymous) into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the user’s subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads any updates that it finds, and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.

RSS formats are specified using XML, a generic specification for the creation of data formats. Although RSS formats have evolved since March 1999,[4] the RSS icon (“”) first gained widespread use between 2005 and 2006.

Initials
The initials “RSS” are used to refer to the following formats:

Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91)
RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9 and 1.0)
Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)

Confusion between Web feed and RSS
The term “RSS” (Really Simple Syndication) is still sometimes used to refer to web feeds in general, including web feeds with a format different than RSS. For example, the Blogspace description of using web feeds in an aggregator is headlined “RSS info” and “RSS readers” even though its first sentence makes clear the inclusion of the Atom format: “RSS and Atom files provide news updates from a website in a simple form for your computer. ”
The RSS formats were preceded by several attempts at web syndication that did not achieve widespread popularity. The basic idea of restructuring information about websites goes back to as early as 1995, when Ramanathan V. Guha and others in Apple Computer’s Advanced Technology Group developed the Meta Content Framework.[7] For a more detailed discussion of these early developments, see the history of web syndication technology.

RDF Site Summary, the first version of RSS, was created by Guha at Netscape in March 1999 for use on the My.Netscape.Com portal. This version became known as RSS 0.9.[4] In July 1999, Dan Libby of Netscape produced a new version, RSS 0.91,[2] which simplified the format by removing RDF elements and incorporating elements from Dave Winer’s scriptingNews syndication format.[8] Libby also renamed RSS “Rich Site Summary” and outlined further development of the format in a “futures document”.[9]

This would be Netscape’s last participation in RSS development for eight years. As RSS was being embraced by web publishers who wanted their feeds to be used on My.Netscape.Com and other early RSS portals, Netscape dropped RSS support from My.Netscape.Com in April 2001 during new owner AOL’s restructuring of the company, also removing documentation and tools that supported the format.[10]

Two entities emerged to fill the void, with neither Netscape’s help nor approval: The RSS-DEV Working Group and Winer, whose UserLand Software had published some of the first publishing tools outside of Netscape that could read and write RSS.

Winer published a modified version of the RSS 0.91 specification on the UserLand website, covering how it was being used in his company’s products, and claimed copyright to the document.[11] A few months later, UserLand filed a U.S. trademark registration for RSS, but failed to respond to a USPTO trademark examiner’s request and the request was rejected in December 2001.[12]

The RSS-DEV Working Group, a project whose members included Guha and representatives of O’Reilly Media and Moreover, produced RSS 1.0 in December 2000.[13] This new version, which reclaimed the name RDF Site Summary from RSS 0.9, reintroduced support for RDF and added XML namespaces support, adopting elements from standard metadata vocabularies such as Dublin Core.

In December 2000, Winer released RSS 0.92[14] a minor set of changes aside from the introduction of the enclosure element, which permitted audio files to be carried in RSS feeds and helped spark podcasting. He also released drafts of RSS 0.93 and RSS 0.94 that were subsequently withdrawn.[15]

In September 2002, Winer released a major new version of the format, RSS 2.0, that redubbed its initials Really Simple Syndication. RSS 2.0 removed the type attribute added in the RSS 0.94 draft and added support for namespaces.

Because neither Winer nor the RSS-DEV Working Group had Netscape’s involvement, they could not make an official claim on the RSS name or format. This has fueled ongoing controversy in the syndication development community as to which entity was the proper publisher of RSS.

One product of that contentious debate was the creation of an alternative syndication format, Atom, that began in June 2003.[16] The Atom syndication format, whose creation was in part motivated by a desire to get a clean start free of the issues surrounding RSS, has been adopted as IETF Proposed Standard RFC 4287.

In July 2003, Winer and UserLand Software assigned the copyright of the RSS 2.0 specification to Harvard’s Berkman Center for the Internet & Society, where he had just begun a term as a visiting fellow.[17] At the same time, Winer launched the RSS Advisory Board with Brent Simmons and Jon Udell, a group whose purpose was to maintain and publish the specification and answer questions about the format.[18]

In December 2005, the Microsoft Internet Explorer team[19] and Outlook team[20] announced on their blogs that they were adopting the feed icon first used in the Mozilla Firefox browser . A few months later, Opera Software followed suit. This effectively made the orange square with white radio waves the industry standard for RSS and Atom feeds, replacing the large variety of icons and text that had been used previously to identify syndication data.

In January 2006, Rogers Cadenhead relaunched the RSS Advisory Board without Dave Winer’s participation, with a stated desire to continue the development of the RSS format and resolve ambiguities. In June 2007, the board revised their version of the specification to confirm that namespaces may extend core elements with namespace attributes, as Microsoft has done in Internet Explorer 7. According to their view, a difference of interpretation left publishers unsure of whether this was permitted or forbidden.

Basic HTML skills can be learnt quickly and there are many tutorials available to get you started.

Some of the online guides for HTML are :
W3schools – has video tutorials which can be useful
HTMLgoodies
WebMonkey
The online guides start from basic coding and then move on to more advanced web design.

Code for a website can also be written using notepad. Compared to web publishing tools, it is usually more difficult to write HTML code from scratch and it usually takes a longer time for the same type of website. However handcoded websites usually do not contain bloated code and load quickly. Once a person learns to write HTML code, it becomes easier to make modifications in existing websites.
